About The Poetry Project

DSCF1235Hi and welcome to The Poetry Project

I hope you will take the time to browse around and find something that you like. For a long time now I have been wanting to bring picture and pen together in a symbiotic relationship of expression. What you see here is simply the start of what I hope will be an ongoing project of passion shared with my fellow South Africans for many years to come.

The Poetry Project is simple in concept. Tucked somewhere in boxes under our beds lie pages and pages of prose unshared with our fellow man; they remain forever hidden away under headings of falsely believed pointlessness. For some reason they don’t matter, simply because it is assumed so. The Poetry Project is asking you to share those pages. We would like to hear your voice and we would like to see through your eyes as you interpret your own words and the words of others from behind the camera. In a nutshell we’re all about forging an understanding and creating a louder voice for poetry by representing and interpreting it through the medium of photography. So far it seems to be working, but for it to continue to work I will need your help.

As part owner of a small publishing company I take this project very seriously and hope that I can elicit your help to do so too. My end goal is to put together a glossy coffee table style book filled with hundreds of poems of various styles and fashions – all illustrated beautifully with photographs taken by our talented fellow countrymen.

This site is merely a taste of things to come. I am using it as a testing ground for what readers like and react to and from here I will assess what should go into the book. But none of it will come to pass without your input. Not only do I need your poems and your photographs, but I need your ideas, your thoughts, your opinions. Talk to me! I promise to hear you…

My challenge to you is to match and surpass the talents you find here.

Be bold and be brave in your efforts!

But most of all…be inspired…
